The Chevrolet Corvette is available as a coupe or convertible again for 2007. The standard engine for both--a 6.0L V8--produces 400 horsepower and 400 ft-lbs of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, while a six-speed automatic transmission is optional. Following an increasing trend for high-end performance cars, this transmission comes with steering wheel shifter paddles and a shorter axle ratio. Stopping power is supplied with four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes and an active handling system. Leather seat trim is standard, as is dual zone climate control, keyless access with push button start, and a limited slip rear differential. A host of wheels, audio systems, and memory features can be ordered, as can a navigation system. Several unique options are available as well. GM's Magnetic Selective Ride control improves ride and handling by actively modulating the stiffness of the shock absorbers. The Z51 performance package includes stiffer suspension components, larger cross-drilled brake rotors, and altered gear ratios when ordered with a six-speed manual. Aside from swapping a fixed top for a manually folding cloth top, the convertible is very similar to the coupe. Exceptions include a standard power passenger seat and the Z4Z Indy 500 Pace Car Package, which provides exterior graphics, a spoiler, and specific paint colors. It also includes DVD navigation and the Z51 performance package. The Z06 Corvette returns for 2007. Starting at $69,175, it includes a 7.0L V8 that puts out 505 horsepower. Stiffer springs, Z06-specific shocks, and larger cross-drilled brakes with six-piston front calipers round out the performance hardware. The Z06 also looks different from the standard Corvette. Apart from being three inches wider, the Z06 sports a unique front fascia, grille, fenders, and quarter panels. A rear spoiler is also standard. To improve the weight distribution, the battery in the Z06 is mounted in the rear, and the fenders and the floor panels are made of carbon fiber. The Z06 also includes a heads-up display, which projects vehicle information onto the windshield. For a limited time, the $7,500 Ron Fellows ALMS GT1 Champion Edition Z06 Package was available.
